Wilkes Lionheart, SLEA Liaison
Over the past 16 years in Second Life, Wilkes Lionheart has witnessed the evolution of digital artistry and has been fortunate to experience some of the most groundbreaking and evocative displays of creativity on the grid. After seeing several of the installations supported by SLEA, he was reminded of what he truly fell in love with about SL all those years ago: so many talented visionaries from every corner of the globe who come to SL to share their creativity with the world.
Wilkes expresses his own creativity in SL through architecture, and landscape and home design. Heavily inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics, wild English gardens, and walking through the woods surrounding his real-life home on the river, Wilkes incorporates organic elements with more modern features to create spaces that draw on the beauty, unpredictability, and imperfection of the natural world. He is currently on a journey learning furniture design in an effort to bring more classic Scandinavian pieces to share with the residents of Second Life.
In his First Life, Wilkes is the executive director of a community foundation that focuses its grantmaking on, among other community needs, the arts and cultural opportunities for the local community. Part of his work includes assisting nonprofit staff in crafting a compelling narrative for their applications and working with them throughout the year to ensure they are successful in meeting their project outcomes. He is grateful for the opportunity to work with the many talented artists in Second Life and to bring his practical experience to bear as an SLEA Liaison.
